Google reviews are the modern word-of-mouth. For Columbus businesses, a strong review profile can mean the difference between a customer choosing you or your competitor down the street.
The foundation: deliver an experience worth reviewing. This sounds obvious, but it's the most important factor.
Timing is everything. The best time to ask for a review is immediately after a positive interaction.
Make it ridiculously easy. Create a direct link to your Google review page. Print it as a QR code on receipts, business cards, and in-store signage.
Train your team. Every customer-facing employee should know how and when to ask for reviews.
Follow up (once). A single follow-up message 24-48 hours after their visit is appropriate.
Respond to every review. This is non-negotiable. Thank positive reviewers by name and reference specifics from their visit.
Never offer incentives for reviews. This violates Google's terms of service.
Set a realistic goal. If you currently have 20 reviews, aim for 50 in the next quarter.
For Columbus businesses competing in crowded markets โ restaurants, home services, healthcare โ reviews are your competitive edge.
